6 Christmas-themed treats for the Melbourne dessert lover

  • Dec 8, 2017

Christmas is the most wonderful time of year… for dessert lovers.

Businesses across Melbourne are going full Kris Kringle on us, creating lavish Christmas-themed treats, and we couldn’t be happier.

The fact they’re all limited time only offers just makes us want them more!

From cakes to doughnuts to cocktails, we’ve scoured the interwebs to bring you some of our faves.

What are you waiting for?

LuxBite

  • 38 Toorak Rd, South Yarra
  • 28 Katherine Place, Melbourne CBD

Luxbite know their desserts. But this new cake, known as “Santa’s Belly” is right up there.

It’s a raspberry compote and coconut mousse cake with coconut dacquoise and edible chocolate decorations.

In case you were wondering, it’s gluten free. And in theory, it serves six to eight people – not sure if that factors in our Christmas gluttony.

Sweet Box

www.sweetbox.melbourne

Have you heard of Sweet Box? These guys are killin’ it, bursting onto the scene with their quirky gift ideas for sweettooths!

Their doughnut bouquets are uber popular right now, and we couldn’t go past this Christmas-themed edition.

It will set you pack a tidy $75, but the look on your friend’s face when they receive it, or the look on your own face when you send it to yourself at work? Priceless.

Ministry of Cakes

571 Sydney Rd Brunswick

Brunswick’s master cakerers (it’s a word… ok, not really) have mastered the art of the towering cake.

You know, the ones you see at weddings and the occasional extravagant one-year-old birthday party?

Naturally, they’re on point for Christmas time. We need that reindeer cake in our life.

Warning: These bad boys take time to create, so you need to get in quick. They stop taking Chrissie orders on December 20.

Atrium bar on 35

Level 25, 25 Collins St, Melbourne

It wouldn’t be Christmas without a few cheeky cocktails, right?

Meet the Le Sucre D’orge. This Christmas-themed cocktail is being served at the Atrium bar on 35 – you’ll find it in the Sofitel on Collins.

According to the man behind the drink, mixologist Marc Dasan, it “smells like candy and tastes like Christmas”. We’re in.

FYI, the name translates to “sugar of barley”, and yes, that is a candy cane.

Doughnut Time

  • 5 Degraves Street, Melbourne CBD, VIC 3000
  • 377 Brunswick Street, Melbourne, VIC 3065
  • 178 Chapel Street, Windsor, VIC, 3181

Of course, the Doughnut Time has Christmas-themed doughnuts. It would have been rude of them not to.

They’ve created five brand new doughnuts for this season, and yeah, we pretty much recommend you eat them all.

Naturally, they’ve got crazy ass names like Treat Yo’ Elves, Sleigh Girl, Sleigh, Snow Money Snow Problems and Jolly AF. But we couldn’t go past the Mistle-Dough – a Red Velvet vegan doughnut with vegan buttercream and holly sprinkles. And it’s vegan too!

Crux and co

35 Albert Road, Melbourne

The Crux and Co team have been creating deliciousness in their patisserie for some time now.

And their new Christmas treats take the cake. (Literally?) They’ve got gingerbread houses and green and red croissants, but it’s these the sweet tweets (sorry) above that will have us flying into Albert Road for brunch asap.
