The best hotel in the country is right here in Victoria! Meet Jackalope.
The stunning Mornington Peninsula hotel recently took out the top gong at the Australian Hotel Awards, and for good reason!
- 166 Balnarring Rd, Merricks North
Here’s how the folk behind the award – Gourmet Traveller – described the hotel:
“In less confident hands the juxtaposition of rural vineyard setting, ultra contemporary architecture and almost cinematic design could have been an expensive failure.
“Instead, Jackalope creator Louis Li and an enthusiastic team have created a hotel unlike any other in the country. And we mean that in the best possible way.”
The Jackalope beat out Como The Treasury in Perth and Halcyon House on Cabarita Beach in NSW to win the Hotel of the Year award.
About the awards
Gourmet Traveller produces the annual Australian Hotel Guide – an honest and independent guide to the nation’s best accommodation.
“[We] scout the country for the very best in hotels: from city to country, coast to coast, club sandwich to club sandwich.
“We check into reviewed hotels anonymously and pay our own way.
“What we experience at these top Australian addresses is the same as what you, our readers, would experience.
“No special treatment; no added extras. Just honest, informative reviews of the best hotel experiences around the country.”
Here’s just a few of the reasons why you’re going to want to put this Mornington Peninsula gem on your list:

The shining light in Doot Doot Doot's dramatic interior is a custom-made, 10,000-globe chandelier designed by @fabioongaratodesign and realised by Melbourne-based artist @janflooklighting. This 80sqm crown was commissioned to evince the process of fermentation, one of the seven stages in the hotel’s narrative, alchemy. @fabioongaratodesign @janflooklighting #luxuryreimagined #foodsnotbadeither
