The ultimate Melbourne cocktail list

  • Jul 21, 2017

Melbourne is famous for a lot of things: laneways, coffee, Shane Warne’s hair, but it’d be downright rude to gloss over our booming cocktail scene.

Yes, we know our fair city is heaven for foodies, but you can be sure that our bartenders have just as much to be proud of as our endless of line of talented chefs.

To celebrate, we’ve put together a list of our favourite cocktails.

It’s a mix of the kooky, the classic and the absolutely lavish. But let’s face it, we can’t drink all the cocktails in the city (we’ve tried), so we want to hear from you.

Tell us your favourite and we’ll add it to the list (and let’s face it, we’ll probably then go and drink it as well).

This bad boy serves up to four people and features vodka, crème de violet, rose liqueur, fresh pressed citrus, and a delightfully playful champagne bubble bath.

Hattori Hanzo

How often do you get to have a cocktail named after a ninja?

Even better, how often do you get to have a cocktail named after a ninja with a big-ass jalapeno stuffed inside the glass?

Served over ice, muddled cucumber and that jalapeno, this cocktail also features Bombay Sapphire gin & yuzu sake, shaken with freshly squeezed lemon juice and elderflower.

Gunpowder Treason

Here comes the BOOM! Featuring Havana 7-year-old, Ferro-china bisleri, olorosso sherry and flamed maraschino. The Boilermaker House team describe it as: “heady, aromatic and surprisingly cleansing.”

The Kinder Surprise

More Nutella! We told you it was back! This drink features Nutella, Baileys, Frangelico and a whole flippin’ Kinder Surprise for yourself. You can get a non-alcoholic version for $12, but why would you?

Money to Burn

Ok, so Eau De Vie is pretty much off the chain when it comes to cocktails, which means we could have included any of their cocktails here.

We’ve decided on the Money to Burn, which features coconut spiced rum, sloe gin and apricot brandy. Sounds pretty sweet, right?

But this is Melbourne, and we pretty much don’t do cocktails without some sort of theatre attached! As the Eau De Vie team says, the Money to Burn comes with “a little liquid magic and a fiery surprise”.

Girls Night Out

Yes, we know Om Nom is on this list twice, but come on, look at this thing! Vodka shaken with crème de fraise, fresh pressed raspberries, violet and rose syrup, fresh pressed citrus. Served straight up on a mirror platter with raspberry and chambord lipstick , rose petals, champagne perfume. Spray the perfume into your mouth, try on the lipstick, and then drink. AMAZEBALLS!

Bloody Mary

It’s pretty obvious that this isn’t just a typical Bloody Mary. This epic creation comes with its own unique garnish – SPRING ROLLS! It’s got hangover written alllllll over it.

We’re gonna need a bigger glass… The Honolua Bay Sharknado, features dark rum, Cointreau, passionfruit, lime, orange and orgeat (a sweet syrup, almost like liquid marzipan), all served in this kick ass sharks head glass.
